Ninth Annual Run to Break the Cycle Was a Success
The Ninth Annual "Run to Break the Cycle" was held on Saturday, August
28, 2010. The event had a few new and exciting changes
than in year's past. For the first time, a 10K race was offered with
52 runners participating. A "Fun Walk" was also offered to those
who enjoy a more leisurely stroll. The 2010 walk had 55 participants.
Together, with the traditional 5K event, the year's "Run to Break the
Cycle" had over 300 participants! Chris Nocera was the 10K Overall Male Winner with a time of 34:15. Danielle Lucas was the 10K Overall Female Winner with a time of 46:33. Asa Equels was the 5K Overall Male Winner with a time of 17:15. Maddie Goldcamp was the 5K Overall Female Winner with a time of 20:32. A complete list of the winners and their times was available on The Runner's High website, www.runhigh.com. Once again, the "Run to Break the Cycle" proved to be a valuable fund-raiser for the Center, raising over $9,800, thanks to all of our volunteers, the Beaver Volunteer Fire Department, staff and all of our sponsors. They made the 2010 race the best yet!
Back in 1997, Tom Rocco,
Director of Golf, and Garen Steele, Head Golf Professional for BlackHawk
Golf Course took on a new When Tom and Garen first met with Women's Center staff about holding the outing at BlackHawk, little did they know they would someday be coming to work wearing Hawaiian leis or tie dye shirts, two of many themes that have been held over the years. Many of the 2010 participants turned out on June 16th wearing custom made tie dye shirts and accessories. One golfer said", It just adds to the excitement of the day".
The par quota winning foursome consisted of Norma Cheek, Terry Rafalko, Liz DeJesus and Stacie Scheel. The Women's Center cleared over $16,500 making 2010 year's outing a success.
